Celtel Kenya gets new MD

Rene Meza is the new managing director for Celtel Kenya. Rene brings over ten years of experience in the telecom industry from Africa, Asia and Latin-America.

Prior to joining Celtel, Rene was the chief executive officer of the mobile operator Millicom Tanzania (Tigo). Before that, as chief operating officer of Millicom Pakistan he was responsible for the overall performance of the mobile company till late 2006.

From 1996 till late 2005, Rene had led various managerial positions in Millicom Paraguay and acquired wide international experience in the telecom business with strong focus in building and developing telecommunications businesses coupled with the best international practices.

During his first meeting with the Kenyan media, Meza said Celtel Kenya has played a key role in the development of the country's economy. “Since its establishment eight years ago, it has made a total cumulated investment in excess of KSh33bn into the Kenyan economy,” he said.

Rene also revealed that that Celtel plans to invest an additional KSh25bn in the coming years in order to continue expanding its network coverage and introduce new technologies in order to fulfil customers' needs.
