The Cove-er up!

This is a gripping documentary coupled with investigative journalism which explores the amazing true story of a sleepy lagoon off the coast of Japan known as The Cove. What's supposed to be an ordinary ‘catch of the day' amongst the fishermen of Taiji, turns out to be a little more deadly and shocking to the rest of the world.
The Cove-er up!

The journey starts when Ric O' Barry, a former dolphin trainer for the 1960's hit television series ‘Flipper' goes to Taiji in a long-time search of redemption. One fateful day, after spending many years as a dolphin trainer, O' Barry realises that these self-aware, sensitive and highly intelligent creatures must never be subjected to human captivity again.

This sparks his mission to Taiji, a town that appears to be devoted to these exceptional sea creatures but in reverse alarmingly conceals a dolphin-trafficking cove driven by a multi-billion dollar dolphin entertainment industry. Not only are the fishermen of Taiji caught up in a cruel hunt but they are also responsible for endangering an ignorant nation by distributing contaminated dolphin meat.

O'Barry joins forces with filmmaker Louis Psihoyos and the Ocean Preservation Society on a covert mission to expose the truth of what's really going on in The Cove and why it matters to everyone in the world. The collective group of activists, filmmakers and free-divers trespass the ‘Keep Out' signs in the still of the night to make their shocking discovery.

The Cove is a sad and moving film that explores the realities of the dark underworld that these dolphins face. O' Barry's passion is infectious and as he sets about to make a difference, he emphasises that social change does not come from the government but from the passion of an individual.

Winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Documentary
